44-Year-Old Woman Dead after Two-Vehicle Crash near Sawmill Road

BAKERSFIELD, CA (June 27th, 2024) – One woman was killed Tuesday, and Victoria Gomez was hurt in a two-car crash on Highway 155.

The incident occurred around 10:15 p.m., near Sawmill Road just south of Wofford Heights.

According to officers, a 44-year-old woman driving a Toyota Prius westbound veered into the eastbound lanes for unknown reasons. This resulted in a head-on collision with an oncoming Chevrolet Impala.
 
Medical personnel arrived and pronounced the 44-year-old Bakersfield woman driving the Prius dead at the scene. Meanwhile, the 34-year-old Impala driver, identified as Victoria Gomez of Bakersfield, was transported to Kern Medical with significant injuries.
 
Emergency crews temporarily closed the surrounding area during cleanup and preliminary duties.
 
Authorities are currently investigating whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the fatal head-on crash. More details will be provided once available.
