24-Year-Old Man Dies in Fiery Two-Vehicle Collision near Ira

SCURRY COUNTY, TX (February 25, 2024)Seth Thomas Boynton died Monday afternoon in a head-on accident on Farm-to-Market Road 1609. The incident occurred at approximately around 1:20 p.m., on February 12th.

According to reports, Boynton was operating a GMC pickup truck with a flatbed utility trailer attached, heading south when he crossed into the northbound lanes. In response, 26-year-old Cameron Scott Johnson, traveling north, attempted to avoid a collision by swerving into the southbound lanes.

Despite Johnson’s evasive action, Boynton also returned to the southbound lanes, resulting in a head-on collision between the two vehicles. The impact caused the GMC to catch fire.

Emergency medical personnel arrived at the scene and transported Johnson and his passenger, 30-year-old Stephan Jerod Gunderson, to Cogdell Memorial Hospital with serious injuries. Due to the severe injuries sustained, Boynton, aged 24, was pronounced dead at the scene.
