52-Year-Old Man Pronounced Dead after 3-Vehicle Collision near Cherrybell Straight

TUCSON, AZ (June 18, 2024) Mark Leonard Mason died early Wednesday in a three-car crash on 22nd Street and South Cherrybell Straight.

The incident occurred at approximately 6:00 p.m., on June 12th.

Officers reported that 52-year-old Mason was driving a BMW westbound on 22nd Street when he attempted to make a left turn at a yellow traffic light.

The BMW collided with a Honda Accord traveling eastbound in the middle lane on South Cherrybell Stravenue. The impact caused debris from the Accord to strike another car as it continued moving eastbound.

Emergency responders quickly transported Mason to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. Three days later, medical personnel pronounced him dead. Mason’s failure to yield during the turn was identified as the primary contributing factor to the crash.

An active investigation is ongoing to gather further details. Additional information will be provided as it becomes available.
