Unidentified Male Victim Fatally Struck in Car Crash near Escondido Canyon Road

ACTON, CA (June 18, 2024) – One man died early Friday morning, in a hit-and-run crash on Highway 14 and Escondido Canyon Road.

The incident occurred at approximately 1:21 a.m., near Red Rover Mine.

Officers reported that the driver of a Nissan Altima rear-ended a disabled Honda Pilot SUV being assisted by a tow truck. The impact pushed the Honda into its driver, who was standing nearby.

Responding medics pronounced the male pedestrian deceased. Police have not yet released his name or place of residence. Additionally, authorities stated that the 17-year-old male driver of the Altima fled the scene on foot.

After initial investigations, they arrested the juvenile at Henry Mayo Hospital. Acton officials issued a SigAlert, closing the No. 2 and No. 3 lanes of Highway 14 as crews investigated the hit-and-run crash.

The investigation is ongoing as authorities work to gather more information.
