Two Dead, Two Hospitalized after Speeding Collision near Southwest 45th Avenue

AMARILLO, TX (June 19, 2024)Aaron Cervantez and Edwin Macias died Friday night, and two others were hurt in a red-light collision on Soncy Road.

First responders arrived to the scene around 9:00 p.m., near Southwest 45th Avenue on June 7th.

Officers say 19-year-old Pemberton was driving a 2001 Chevrolet Tahoe northbound on Soncy Road at a high speed. The Chevy ran a red light and collided with a westbound 2008 Cadillac CTS, causing the Cadillac to spin out.

A passenger in the Cadillac was ejected onto the road. Medics pronounced the Cadillac driver, 18-year-old Macias, and the passenger, 20-year-old Cervantes of Dimmit, deceased.

Paramedics transported another passenger from the Cadillac, 18-year-old Alexander Rivera from Dimmit, to a hospital with life-threatening injuries. They also transported 19-year-old Dawson Pemberton for further treatment.

After initial investigations, police suspect that speed and alcohol were contributing factors in the crash.

Additionally, while emergency personnel were responding to the scene, an APD vehicle struck a pedestrian who had stepped onto the road. Medics transported the pedestrian to a hospital, where he later passed away.

The loved ones of Rivera set up a GoFundMe page to help with costs during this difficult time.

Deepest condolences and sympathies are with the family and friends of Aaron Cervantez, Edwin Macias, and the pedestrian.
