Three Motorcyclists Pronounced Dead after Six-Vehicle Crash near Las Pulgas Road and Camp Pendleton

OCEANSIDE, CA (July 2nd, 2024) – Three victims died early Thursday, and five victims sustained injuries in a motorcycle collision on Interstate 5.

The incident occurred at approximately 3:00 a.m., on the southbound lanes of the freeway near Las Pulgas Road and Camp Pendleton.

Reports indicate that the driver of a Jeep hit the shoulder guardrail of the freeway before stopping. Shortly afterward, a Mercedes-Benz van collided with the disabled Jeep, and four passing motorcyclists then crashed into the two vehicles.

Paramedics arrived and pronounced three motorcyclists dead at the scene, while the fourth rider was transported to a nearby hospital for further treatment. Medical responders also airlifted the two Jeep occupants to Scripps La Jolla Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The driver and passenger of the van were hospitalized with moderate injuries. A U.S. Navy spokesperson later confirmed that two of the deceased men were sailors.

Oceanside officials are currently investigating the fatal multi-vehicle crash on Las Pulgas Road. Further details will be provided as they become available.
