22-Year-Old Woman Pronounced Dead after Two-Vehicle Crash near West 54th Street

LOS ANGELES, CA (April 17, 2024) Maria Jarmaillo-Silva died Thursday night in a hit-and-run t-bone collision on Figueroa and West 54th Street. The incident occurred at approximately 9:30 p.m., near the Vermont Square neighborhood.

According to reports, the driver of a white Ford Explorer collided with a vehicle carrying a family of three at the intersection. Subsequently, the three individuals in the Ford Explorer fled the scene. Investigators revealed that the men gathered their belongings and left the SUV, resulting in several beer cans falling out.

Paramedics who arrived at the scene pronounced a female victim from the other vehicle dead. The deceased woman was identified by the Los Angeles Department of Medical Examiner as Maria Jarmaillo-Silva, aged 22.

Meanwhile, a 5-year-old boy and a 20-year-old man sustained serious injuries and were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Emergency crews briefly closed off the surrounding area for cleanup and preliminary tasks. Police have not provided any further information about the suspects. Authorities urge witnesses to the fatal hit-and-run to contact the LAPD.
