21-Year-Old Man Pronounced Dead after Pedestrian Crash near Rice Street

BAKERSFIELD, CA (March 28, 2024) – Late Thursday night, Jonathan Chaidez Soto was killed in a hit-and-run crash at the 2500 block of Columbus Street. The incident occurred at approximately 9:29 p.m., near Rice Street.

Authorities report that a pedestrian walking north outside a designated crosswalk was struck by the driver of an eastbound dark-colored sedan. The male victim succumbed to his injuries at the scene, as pronounced by medics. The pedestrian has been identified as 21-year-old Soto from Bakersfield.

Following the incident, emergency responders temporarily closed off the vicinity for cleanup and initial procedures. Bakersfield Officials urge anyone with information regarding the fatal hit-and-run to reach out to the BPD at 661-327-7111.
